Biography

craneBruce Cawdron has been involved with Oriental Medicine for the past 10 years. He emphasizes a therapeutic approach which combines Asian methods and Western standards and requirements. His interest in Oriental Medicine has currently led him to a study of other areas in the field such as Shonishin (techniques for children), Qigong, and Pharmacology and Nutrition. He has a broad background in the study and use of Native North American Herbs. For the past 4 years he has had a special interest in complementary cancer care from the perspective of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

June 2013 – Modern Cupping Therapy with Bruce Bentley. Modern uses of vacuum cups include detoxification protocols for deficient and cancer patients, Facial Cupping to benefit the complexion, ease mild headaches and clear sinus congestion, as well as protocols to reduce the pain and tightness of scars, cellulite and stretch-marks. May 2013 – A Master Class seminar in Traditional East-West Cupping, with Australian cupping master Bruce Bentley. This seminar underlines the therapeutic use of cups in many world cultures : Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek, Russian and Lithuanian. Subtle techniques such as knowing how to vary the suction level of the cups to be appropriate for the emotional and physical condition of the individual client were taught. As well, Chinese cupping treatments for menstrual pain and gastro-intestinal discomforts, and the use of external herbal applications in association with cupping. Portland, OR

April 2013 – QiGong for Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention taught by Frank Butler of Zheng Gu TuiNa. For thousands of years, Chinese medicine has utilized an extremely effective method of rehabilitation: QiGong. Only now beginning to be appreciated by physical therapists in the West, this method to teach the body to work as a unified organism by re-programming the neuro-muscular system. This differs from standard physical therapy exercises, which usually focus on strength training and cardio-vascular exercise. QiGong for Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention combines lecture, theory, demonstration and practice of QiGong/NeiGong routines, as well as teaching individual exercises that can be used to help rehabilitate injuries, promote correct body alignment and enhance the general health of the patient. November 2012 – A martial Arts and Sports medicine seminar on Treatment of Trauma with Herbs, Ointments and Plasters. Frank Butler of Zheng Gu TuiNa details how to heal acute, sub-acute and chronic injuries with the use of various herbal remedies developed by martial arts masters, and which have been in use for thousands of years. April 2012 – Japanese Acupuncture seminar with Kiiko Matsumoto, focusing on the Tan Tien – the area below the navel that makes up a person’s root or foundation. According to the classic texts : “Treating and strengthening the lower Tan Tien will also influence the middle and upper” Common symptoms associated with a weak TanTien include anxiety, panic attacks, post-partum depresion, GYN problems, autoimmune problems, back pain, abdominal pain headaches and cardiac problems. The goal of relation d’aide is to help people to understand their difficulties, enabling them to make independent and significant choices. The workshop detailed various techniques to help people work through important life changes in an emotionally constructive way. Montreal, QC.

October 2010Third International Congress of the OAQ: Back to the source, Montreal. This congress featured a special focus on the links between eastern & western traditional medicines. In Particular, Chinese medicine and Innu / Montagnais medcicines were compared and contrasted.

The Eight Extraordinary Meridians and their 8 key points. Post-congress seminar with Élisabeth Rochat de la Vallée. This workshop focused on the presentation of the extraordinary meridians from several ancient texts, and an analysis of their purpose as reservoirs of qi and blood within the body.

May 2010 – Tuina level 1, with Frank Butler & Tom Bosio. Traditional Chinese massage for muscle-skeletal injuries, incorporating theory, practise, and an integration with herbs, liniments and acupuncture as well as various therapeutic QiGong exercises.
